The screw conveyor is a versatile and cost-effective device for conveying powdery materials. With its simple and compact structure, reliability, and wide-ranging applications, it finds use in various industries, including grain, building materials, chemicals, and transportation. For instance, employing a tubular screw conveyor for cement transportation minimizes cement dispersion, reducing waste and environmental pollution. As road construction advances and construction machinery evolves, the large-angle screw conveyor has become an integral component of concrete mixing equipment, frequently utilized at construction sites that require bulk cement usage. Here, we outline the structure design and parameter selection considerations for the large-angle screw conveyor, which comprises the screw body, material inlet and outlet, and the driving device.
The screw conveyor body comprises components such as a head bearing, tail bearing, screw shaft, outer tube, and sight glass. The driving device consists of a motor, reducer, coupling, and related elements. Typically, the large-angle screw conveyor maintains an angle of around 4° and a length not exceeding 8 meters. To prevent friction between the curved screw shaft and the outer tube, the middle of the screw shaft should be properly supported, and its winding should be inspected. The middle support serves to reduce radial winding of the screw shaft, and considering the challenging working conditions at this point, it's crucial. Since the screw blade is discontinuous at the middle support, the dimensions of the support along the axis direction should be minimized to prevent material blockage. A pedestal bearing or flange pedestal can be utilized for support.
Each suspension bearing of the screw conveyor must reliably support the connecting shaft without obstructing or bending the screw. Suspension bearings should be positioned at the center of the connecting shaft, with a gap of more than 10 mm between their end face and the end face of the two screw tubular shafts. To adjust the cumulative error in length between the casing and the screw, adding gaskets between the flanges of each casing during installation is permissible. In cases where the center height difference between the low-speed shaft of the driving device reducer and the screw conveyor's center height is substantial, the driving device's height can be adjusted using gaskets. If oil leakage from the bearing is detected during no-load testing, the bearing should be removed, and the spring tension in the sealing ring should be adjusted until the leakage is resolved. The temperature rise of each bearing should not exceed 20℃ during no-load testing, and during on-load testing, it should not exceed 30℃.
To prevent small materials from entering the bearing, effective dustproof and lubricating mechanisms should be employed. The screw conveyor is sensitive to overload and prone to blockages. For optimal conveying, it's recommended that the pitch of the screw shaft be variable, with a smaller pitch at the lower part compared to the upper part. This design helps prevent overloading and blockages in the system.
